Trust is a session problem
Technically, signing a document is no harder than issuing a login session. Billions of sessions are created every day, and they keep the internet running securely. PDFs never got that standardization. E-sign giants make billions asserting a simple fact: they saw someone open an email, view a PDF, and press a button.
The hard part is protecting the digital certificate doing the signing, not so much the scribble at the bottom of the page. Getting one requires organizational verification and safekeeping so strict that no human is ever allowed to touch the signing key.
What we learned signing thousands of PDFs a day
The team building CloudRaker spent years building digital trust networks for heavily regulated industries. Late last year, we acquired one of those certificates to notarize transactions for our most demanding clients. Today we digitally seal thousands of PDFs a day, 24/7. We even see batches of hundreds of documents being sent for signature in one request.
That made us think: what if the digital seal became the foundation of trust at the moment a workflow decides a document is final? A doctor reviews medical notes before they enter a patient record. A broker reviews insurance policies and summarizes coverages and limits in a certificate. A contract redlined by an agent, reviewed by a lawyer, and signed by two parties is archived with a signature that proves exactly that.
Agents that can touch documents can change documents
As agents become more capable of touching documents, they become more capable of modifying them. A misconfigured permission might let an agent alter a PDF without anyone noticing. In regulated industries, the consequences can be damning.
RakeSign closes that gap. Once a business rule is met, the document is sealed with a document-signing certificate. From that point on, any edit, by an agent or a human, marks the document as tampered the next time it opens in a PDF reader.

Our certificate is on the Adobe Approved Trust List, so Adobe Reader and compatible software display the signature as valid. Every document comes with a complete audit trail: who opened it, when, how they signed, and from where.
Trust you can verify
Free doesn't mean casual. CloudRaker has just completed its SOC 2 Type 2 examination: an independent auditor verified that we operated our security controls, continuously, over the audit period. The report is available to customers on request.
In practice: signing keys in hardened key-management infrastructure no human can touch, 256-bit encryption in transit and at rest, and our signed PDFs are timestamped and LTV-enabled. Signatures we apply on documents are designed to hold up under eIDAS in the EU, ESIGN and UETA in the US, and PIPEDA in Canada.
